About Us

Mitchell's involvement in racing started from school with time spent at the yards of Nicky Richards and Barry Murtagh. After graduating from the British Racing School he went straight to leading National Hunt trainer Jonjo O'Neill and spent two seasons in the Cotswolds at Jackdaws Castle.

Moving to Newmarket, racing's 'headquarters', to be assistant to James Owen, broadened his skill set over three seasons. During that time Owen was developing his business encompassing breaking and pre-training for many of Newmarket's established trainers and keeping a small, but successful string of point-to-pointers. He has also been five-times UK Leading Arabian trainer, with the Late HH Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum as his principle owner.

Mitchell was keen to take out his own licence, but whilst waiting for the right yard to become available, he joined Royal Ascot winning trainer Richard Spencer at Sefton Lodge as his assistant in 2018.

Describing the opportunity to train from Barford Racing Stables as "an offer he couldn't refuse" Mitchell and Lucinda moved in the autumn of 2020, along with their dogs, Maisy and Maple.
